Custom Orthotics

A custom orthotic is an orthopedic device specifically built to aid or modify the way the foot strikes the ground. Some custom orthotics are simple, generically-made devices, such as cushioned or padded heel cups or insoles for shoes and can be purchased over the counter in drug stores or other sporting good stores. The pressure plates that are now gaining popularity in some retail establishments do not capture the three dimensional shape of the arch. Without this information, this “orthotic” is not truly custom device but rather a cushion to mask your symptoms, not treat the cause of your problem. Some of these are known as arch supports, memory foam innersoles, and heel protectors. These “orthotics” cannot be considered truly custom because they do not capture the three-dimensional aspects of your foot.

For the most effective treatment, custom-made devices crafted by a podiatrist will meet the specific needs of a particular individual. Custom orthotics is crafted using a cast of the individual’s foot, which mimics any misalignments or oddities in foot structure. Using the cast and computer technology, technicians in an orthotic lab design a custom orthotic that balances out deformities and corrects misalignments. Dr. Leisten utilizes the latest biomechanical theory to fabricated Sole Supports. Sole Supports help you avoid heel, knee, hip and back pain.
